About The Speaker

Bulent Coskun

He had his medical training and psychiatric residency at Hacettepe University, Ankara (1972-1982). He worked at different state hospitals then as the Director of Mental Health Department at the Ministry of Health (1985-1991). He lead the Mental Health Program Development activities in close relation with WHO, took active part in the Project for the settlement and psychosocial support for the forced migration of, then called, Bulgarian Ethnic Turks (1989), had been the member of the Turkish delegation for World Health Assembly for six consecutive years (1988-1993) (including several workshops and training programs of WHO), taken part in various WHO missions at Tanzania, Macedonia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan. He was the founder of two different psychiatry departments one in the eastern part of Turkey, the other on the west where he is currently a Faculty. After the devastating Marmara earthquake in 1999, lead CMHC mainly working on mental health awareness activities, locally and nationally (awarded a commendational certificate for the awareness training programs by a joint group of WHO and WFMH – 2004). He contributed to several articles, book chapters and presentations at various national and international congresses, is one of the editors and authors of the book Teaching Psychiatry (WPA). He is a member of Operational Committee of WPA Secretary for Education. Served as Chief of local Branch of Psychiatric Assocation of Turkey and is member of Turkish Social Psychiatric Association, World Association of Social Psychiatry and is European Representative for Turkey of World Association for Psychosocial Rehabilitation.
